Grampians Vic
The Grampians, named after a Scottish mountain range, are a spectacular region approx 250 km west of Melbourne in mid western Victoria. The famous wild sandstone formations form the western end of the Great Dividing Range. The Grampians comprise an interesting mix of 400 million year old mountains, dry plains and traditional farming lands. There are pretty lakes & waterfalls, forested gullies, swamplands and rugged cliffs many of which contain ancient Aboriginal art. The area is famous for its prosperous farming lands and more recently, vineyards and olive groves. Main towns include Hamilton, Coleraine, Halls Gap, Stawell. Grampians NP (170 000 ha) with its rich Aboriginal & European culture, spring wildflowers and rocky vistas is not to be missed.
